Tried a few suggestions, re-applied a couple of firmware updates, but still no go. I didn't worry as I was able to use the SP3's own port.
Then I was on site, fired up the Surface, and they type cover keyboard didn't work.
After some judicious searching, I came across some key combinations I hadn't seen before:-
Keyboard not working?
Press the Power button and the Volume Down button at the same time for a few seconds
Keyboard still not working? Accessories on dock not working.
1) Try holding down the Power button and the Volume up button for 15 seconds
2) Wait for 10 seconds
3) Press the power button.
This seems to force the drivers to reload.
One that I already knew, if the Surface won't turn on, try:-
Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds then release.
Press the power button and it should fire up.
Another tip useful for developers, stepping through their code, hold down the Fn key and press the Caps key to lock the function keys. Press Fn+Caps again to unlock them.
